As a 30-year career Police Officer and Firefighter with the City and County of San Francisco, Matthew J. McNaughton joined the Carcione team after being admitted to the State Bar of California in 2003.Founding Attorney Joseph Carcione’s commitment to injured workers in his beloved City of San Francisco was a perfect fit for Mr. McNaughton’s colleagues in need. Representing injured Peace Officers, Sheriffs, Paramedics, and Firefighters has been our goal and practice for the last 20 years.
Mr. McNaughton represents safety workers through the matrix of issues surrounding California Workers’ Compensation Law. Cases litigated include difficult employee death cases to complex cumulative trauma cases resulting from the rigors of public safety. A minefield of law in the area of Public Safety Presumptions is applied when appropriate to the applicant’s case. Particular attention is paid to the intricate interaction between the Workers’ Compensation System and other legal issues. These issues include pursuit of Industrial Disability Retirement with Public Entities such as CalPers and SFERS, and the interaction with Social Security Disability. Mr. McNaughton’s years of experience in Peace Officer and Firefighter Bill of Rights investigations and litigation bring a unique knowledge base to help resolve the injured workers’ many challenges after a work injury.
When not practicing law, Mr. McNaughton enjoys spending time with family and friends and working on a myriad of building projects which are rarely completed.
